You Ask — We Answer
DO I NEED AN ANNUAL CHECKUP?
Your dentures should be checked annually to ensure maximum comfort, chewing efficiency and appearance. It is an opportunity to identify problems and troubleshoot for the future.
WHEN DO I NEED RELINE?
Our oral structures undergo inevitable changes; to keep the fit up-to-date it is suggested to reline dentures. Doing so refits the tissue surface making the denture fit more securely. It consists of adding new base (pink) material to the tissue side of your denture.
Indications for a reline would be changes in the tissue caused by:
Fluid Retention
Tooth loss
Bone loss
WHAT IS A DENTURE SOFT LINER?
Soft Liners are used to increase chewing comfort in new or existing dentures. Soft liners are bonded to the surface of the dentures and rest on the oral tissues. The soft liner acts as a shock absorber between the hard plastic denture base and the sensitive oral tissues covering the bone. It is indicated that soft liners be replaced every 1.5 - 2 years.
DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY DENTIST?
No, it is not necessary to be referred by your dentist. We offer complimentary consultations for your convenience.
I JUST HAD A TOOTH REMOVED. HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO HAVE IT ADDED TO MY DENTURE?
Ideally, it is suggested to have the denture tooth added prior to having a tooth extracted. The denture base acts as a splint, containing any swelling of the tissue when the tooth is removed. The extraction site tends to heal much quicker and usually with less discomfort. The addition of teeth to a denture after the tooth has been extracted depends on the location of the tooth, i.e. molars take more time to heal than front teeth.
